An unexpected friendship

Once upon a time there was a family of “Youngs” who lived far, far away from their origins...Until they were “discovered” by, and at the same time came to know, some English cousins living in the Cotswolds.
These Youngs were so glad to have connected with this branch of their family in Alison and David.
When David received his diagnosis, they found their time with David would have a ‘best before date’ so much shorter than they’d hoped. Looking back, however, they also realized just how lucky they had been to have had the time given to them.
These Youngs would like to share some memories of David.
He was a wise, intelligent, and thoughtful man who took the time to build a special connection with all of us.
Johanne feels that David was a “Kindred Spirit” from the first day she met him. As a dancer herself, she always enjoyed their long after dinner discussions, connecting over their shared love of the ballet, art, science and philosophy.
Tony enjoyed discussing a multitude of subjects with David, from Law to Mathematics, Aerospace to Cyberspace, Old films to up to date Televisions series. On these topics, and many more, they could expound upon for hours without tiring!
John remembers stopping for tea, and after a pot or two, being asked if he’d like to switch to Japanese tea, which turned out to be Hibiki Japanese whiskey! Or, a “quick chat” which morphed into a sampling of a collection of exotic desserts squirreled away for just that special occasion. John feels that these “little things” (and others) make up the whole that will be dearly missed.
James and Alina were struck by how welcome he made them feel the very first time they met and how easily David and Alison made them feel part of the family right away.
And all of us have many fond memories of a Christmas spent in the Cotswolds with our cousins. One especially when David came to our rescue after we’d had a “small mishap” with our rental car due to driving on the wrong side of the road ( or the “right side” as David corrected us) in the dark and in the rain after an overseas flight the same day ( to be fair to us tourists!) Not only did he come out in the dark and the rain to guide us to the Glade that night, he got up at 4 AM the very next morning to drive a group of us to Bath ( the rental car now being undrivable) to catch a bus to take us to Stonehenge where we were meeting the rest of the family for the Winter Solstice. Now that was going above and beyond, and all for those cousins from Canada!
We love you David, and will miss you greatly,
Tony, Robin, Johanne, John and Yvonne, James and Alina.
